In this newsletter, the QualiPSo project provides an overview of their final results ready to be used by final users. These results have been deployed in the growing network of Competence Centers that already reaches seven countries all over the world. In addition to the Competence Centers network, QualiPSo has built a community of interest around the project results to contribute to the sustainability and evolution of them. The training material about the project outcomes has been also enlarged to provide a holistic knowledge about Open Source domain. Finally, QualiPSo has participated in several relevant events about Open Source issues.

Final QualiPSo assets

After more than four years of research, the Qualipso project is presenting the obtained assets during this time. They have been published in the project web site (www.qualipso.org). For every asset you will find a description about what it is; the pre-conditions and requirements (if any) you need for installing or understanding; the supporting documentation to understand the asset or to get additional information about it; the maturity of the asset in comparison with a final product; and the contact persons for further information. Every asset section includes the links to a factsheet (if exists), the download of the result and the related forum in the QualiPSo community. The list below shows all the assets available at QualiPSo web site:

These results are ready to be downloaded and tested by you!
The formal funded project finishes by end of January 2011 but the results will evolve and grow in the future. During the project, the consortium partners have developed the results but from now on also external players may support the project results contributing in improving and evolving these assets. Thus, we invite you to visit our web site, to make yours our results and take part to the future of QualiPSo. Some promising research lines have been opened by QualiPSo and the performed investment must be profitable now and in the short time. QualiPSo results are of course Open Source community results. Join us to leverage them even more!

Launching of the QualiPSo community

In order to keep alive the project results leveraging them by future and external contributors, we have created a community around them. We kindly invite you to join the QualiPSo Community and participate in those forums relevant for your interests. You can share with us here your expertise in related matters and experiences in similar initiatives. It is open also for questions and suggestions about the QualiPSo results. If you think your comment is valuable for improving our work or you want to contribute in evolving some of the QualiPSo result, do not hesitate to join the community and express your interest.

The QualiPSo Competence Centers Network continues growing

In order to make the QualiPSo results lasting far beyond the end of the project, the Qualipso Competence Centres Network is rapidly expanding and it is already present in seven different countries: Brazil, China, Germany, Italy, Japan, Poland and Spain.
Each Competence Centre will offer services aimed at fostering the adoption of Open Source in its reference country according to the market, context and social needs. All the Competence Centres belonging to the QualiPSo Network will have to offer a minimal set of common services belonging to the QualiPSo offer. Then, each Competence Centre has selected those project results that are more suitable for being deployed locally in their countries. In particular, each Competence Centre will have to implement and offer two out of three QualiPSo mandatory services: QualiPSo Factory Services, QualiPSo Consultancy Services and QualiPSo Labelling Services. Some of them can also decide to offer supporting training service on specific QualiPSo results.
You can find more information about the Competence Centres here. You can also find there the direct link to each competence centres web site.

Learn with QualiPSo about Open Source!

The objective of the training material prepared by QualiPSo project about different Open Source aspects is to enhance the project results and make easy their understanding and application. The produced courses have been prepared for different target groups (beginners, managers or technical staff among others) and then they have been classified into three categories:

  • Concepts and Models. Courses explaining basic concepts related to FLOSS
  • Methodologies. Courses describing methodologies to be applied for effective use of FLOSS or more in general to actualize the basic concepts
  • Technical. Courses related to technical assets produced by QualiPSo project

You may follow the courses using a provided eLearning platform, in SCORM for any other eLearning platform or in slides-based format. All the information related to QualiPSo training here

QualiPSo presented in relevant Open Source events

OSCON 2010

QualiPSo project was presented at OSCON 2010. The project set up a stand there for collecting information about the project results and to allow people to meet with our project team. We had the possibility to expose the objectives, the scope, the studies and the results of the QualiPSo project. We presented how after the end of the project, the Competence Centers will be able to exploit and transfer the project results. We received at our stand many people, especially during the breaks of the seminaries. Most of the interested people were from industry, but also from government and in a lower degree students.

fOSSa 2010

QualiPSo co-organized the fOSSa event that took place in Grenoble from 8th to 10th November of 2010. This event is addressed for academy and industry to share experiences and results about Open Source. QualiPSo set up also a promotional booth for distributing project material and for meeting with our project team. A computer was available at the stand for playing with our tools. The people could come to our stand for playing with our tools in a computer available and they got a present for testing them. Main project outcomes were presented in plenary sessions. Open Maturity Model (OMM), methodology and tools for quality assessment (MOSST), licensing compatibility, interoperability issues and next generation forges were some matters that were presenting at the event.

Open World Forum (OWF 2010)

One year more QualiPSo has participated in the organization of the Open World Forum, focused this year in Open Innovation, Open Enterprise, Open Society. We had a live presentation, we exposed our video at conference displays, we made a demo about the Factory, we moderated a workshop about FLOSS Competence Centers and we set up a booth for providing information about the project and collecting new feedbacks from the attendees about our work. We thank to all of the attendees for their presence, especially to those that reach our stand for getting more information about our project and filling the questionnaires available there to get valuable feedback.
